Founder/CEO
My name is Marcos Papakostas, and I created Applying Functional Anatomy, a sports performance company, to bring my passion for fitness and athletic performance to individuals on a personal level.
My passion began for fitness when I was 13 years old. I saw a bodybuilding magazine in the lobby of a doctor's office and told myself I wanted to look just like those models. Since that day, I made an effort to go to the gym almost every day to accomplish my fitness goals. For over 8 years, I learned what worked, what didn't work, and quickly made the switch to powerlifting over bodybuilding. Over time, I have progressed into athletic workouts and Olympic lifts to further my athletic performance in soccer.
I went to college to study Mechanical Engineering and ended up switching majors to Exercise Science: Sports Performance. I realized my true purpose in life is to bring the resources and knowledge that I have gained over the years to others that are looking to achieve fitness goals. My true passion has always been fitness.
Here are a few of my credentials/experience:
I was a collegiate athlete and am a current Semi-Pro athlete. I am still training frequently towards my professional career.
I am a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and a Certified Nutrition Coach (CNC) through the International Sports Sciences Association, and I have over 2 years of full-time experience with all types of clients: weight loss, muscles gain, injury rehab, injury prevention, and sports performance. I currently have a bachelor‘s of science in Sports Performance from GCU. As a U.S. Soccer Licensed Coach, I have coached club and rec soccer for many years and have transitioned into specialized goalkeeper coaching.
I have created Applying Functional Anatomy originally as a podcast to share my knowledge and experiences to help others who may have a difficult time starting on their fitness journey. But, I have turned that brand into my own personal training/sports performance and online fitness coaching company in order to make more of a personal impact on others to achieve their health, fitness or athletic goals.
